Spelling and punctuation

When you are reviewing your writing you must check your spelling and punctuation. You will get a better mark if your punctuation and spelling are good.

  • Always check spelling. Does a word look strange? Practise other spellings on your note paper and see if another word looks correct. Look at this writing task in our Writing skills practice section to practise checking spelling.

  • Always check punctuation. Remember when to use CAPITAL letters in English. Have a look at this writing task to practise your punctuation and this task to practise using capital letters.

  • If you have included direct speech have you used "speech marks"?

  • Have you used question marks with questions?

  • Have you finished sentences with full stops?

This writing task also helps you to practise your punctuation.
